Hey my loves, I got this question in an email sent to me a few weeks ago and I thought it would be good for me to do a post on my response for everyone to benefit.

I have noticed that natural hair products are usually products that contain mostly natural ingredients. A look at the label will usually show something like free from sulphates, parabens, mineral oil and so on which is generally all the stuff that is bad for hair anyways. Or on looking at the list of ingredients of products for natural hair you will find that all the bad stuff is usually not contained in them. Relaxed hair can definitely benefit from products with good ingredients. I think therefore that it is always important to make sure that you look through labels of hair products to see the ingredients contained in them and to try as much as possible to choose products based on their list of ingredients.

It is a known fact that our hair benefits from nature’s goodness and maybe less from an overabundance of chemicals. If this is accurate then there is nothing wrong with someone with relaxed hair using a product intended for natural hair and vice versa. It is bad enough that relaxers contain so many chemicals there is no need to use products with a lot of chemicals as well. The most important thing we should be concerned about when choosing our hair products are its ingredients, the products claims and finally how your hair responds to the product. It would be absurd to stop using a product which works great for your hair on the simple premise that it is targeted towards people with different hair from you.

This position is also the same for products targeted towards Caucasian hair. I hope we all know by now that these products can also be used by people of other ethnicities. I am sure there are people with relaxed or natural hair who have used or currently use products such as VO5 moisture milks conditioners and shampoos, suave conditioners and shampoos, tresemme shampoos and conditioners and so on. The most important thing is that your hair is benefiting from the said product so no need to limit yourself. We should all open our minds and hair to a world of possibilities.

Currently I am rotating between three or four moisturisers at the moment. My Wura’s Secret Hair Moisturiser, Hollywood Beauty Olive Crème, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk. First and foremost Wura’s Secret Hair Care products are made using natural ingredients and they are targeted towards all hair types – relaxed, natural, texlaxed, transitioning and others.

I also use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and their Curl & Style Milk. I use the Curl Enhancing Smoothie for my braidouts, and my other curly styles and it helps my curls last for a really long time. The Curl & Style Milk on the other hand is what I use when I wear my hair straight. So although it says curl in its name it actually helps me maintain straight blow dried hair. That is why I say it is about finding out how the product works for your hair and using it that way.

Here is a picture of my updo which I am wearing to work today, I used the Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk as my moisturiser.

I hope with this post I have been able to convince my darling, lovely readers to use any product of their liking regardless of who the product is targeted towards. I am going to be posting my own personal hair growth challenge so please be on the lookout for this.

TONKABELLE, xoxo
