Hello my loves I am back again with another post and I must say that I am quite happy with my blogging frequency. Anyway let us get into the post  – Nature has provided us with everything we need to achieve longer and healthier hair and I just wanted to share with you 5 of the best natural oils that can be used to grow your hair. These oils encourage hair growth by preventing excessive shedding, stimulating the hair follicles and making the hair less susceptible to breakage. I have touched on a few of these 5 Oils for Hair Growth in the past on this blog but I wanted to create one post for the very best oils so that anyone beginning a hair journey can know what to look for.

Now as always I must state that different oils work for people in different ways and perhaps your hair may not like or respond to one of the oils listed. However I have found after thorough research and the fact that I have been making hair products for a while now and always get feedback from my clients; that these oils would generally work to grow our hair. The first 3 oils that are listed are carrier oils (which means that they can be used on their own and can act as a base oil) and the remaining 2 oils are essential oils (which means that they cannot be used on their own but must be mixed with a carrier oil in about a 1:50 ratio). Now without further ado let us get into it:

Coconut Oil: I have done a detailed post on coconut oil and I will encourage you all to read it here because in my opinion coconut oil is one of the very best oils for hair growth. This is because it aids in length retention which is the biggest reason why it seems like black hair does not grow. Coconut oil has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft and follicle to strengthen it from within, it can repair hair that experiences damage, it also minimises the effects of hygral fatigue and is therefore a very good oil to use as a pre-shampoo treatment. It is important to make sure that you use extra virgin coconut oil as this oil has been processed to retain the most amount of benefits. People with thicker hair or hair that is protein sensitive may find that coconut oil can make their hair feel hard however there are ways to minimise this such as by mixing coconut oil with other carrier oils such as castor oil which is more moisturising.

Castor Oil: Castor Oil is also a very wonderful oil for hair growth. This is because it stimulates the hair follicles to grow and also makes hair grow back thicker. It prevents hair loss and stops hair from thinning. Castor Oil is different from other oils as it is a humectant which draws and retains moisture from the atmosphere into the hair. It also has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties which prevents dandruff and other scalp infections. Castor Oil is one of the best oils for hair growth as it actually moisturises and hydrates the hair, it is therefore a perfect sealant for those with dry hair. Please read my post here to find out more about castor oil and how it can be used to achieve hair growth.

Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil is actually a wax that is derived from the seed of the jojoba plant. This is another excellent oil for hair growth and should be applied to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. The reason for this is because jojoba oil mimics the natural sebum on our scalp and therefore nourishes our scalp while making it a conducive place where our hair can grow and thrive. Due to its monounsaturated and saturated fat content it has the ability to deeply penetrate the hair follicles and hydrates and strengthens the hair shaft. Jojoba oil gives the hair elasticity, softness, conditions and nourishes the hair follicles. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Please endeavour to use jojoba oil that is unrefined as this is the purest form of the oil.

Rosemary Oil: This is an essential oil and is to be added to carrier oils in a minimal quantity. Rosemary oil usually comes in small bottles with a dropper dispenser. Rosemary Oil is distilled from the leaves of the rosemary herb. To use rosemary oil for hair growth simply put some drops of rosemary oil into a carrier oil such as the ones I have mentioned above. Rosemary Oil is actually one of the very best oils to aid hair growth, this is because it stimulates the scalp and hair follicles which will in turn stimulate hair growth. It is also said to significantly reduce hair loss and can prevent hair from turning gray. Rosemary Oil also nourishes the scalp and can help in the treatment of dandruff.

Peppermint Oil: This is also an essential oil to be added to carrier oils in a minimal quantity. Peppermint oil also usually comes in small bottles with a dropper dispenser. Peppermint Oil invigorates and penetrates the scalp and hair follicles thereby stimulating hair growth. It has the ability to increase blood flow and improve blood circulation in your scalp which will in turn increase hair growth. Peppermint oil is hypoallergenic and contains antibacterial and antimicrobial properties thereby preventing dandruff and other infections making the scalp an ideal place for hair to grow.

These Oils can be applied to the scalp and on the hair itself, they can be used as hot oil treatments, added to deep conditioners and even shampoos, used in pre-shampoo treatments and can be used in a variety of other ways. Please share your own favourite oils for hair growth and your experience with using any of the above oils.
